After the very successful debut event last year (2022), the African Cup Augsburg took place again on the grounds of TSV Firnhaberau. The response to the 2022 soccer tournament was great. Of course, it quickly became clear that we would like to host the African Cup Augsburg 2023 this year too. We were able to implement this well in cooperation with the Africa Contact Group Augsburg.

Participants were:  

Cameroon, Eritrea, Hermes Mania FC, Gambia, Kongo, Team Afrique, Guinea, East African, Nigeria, Senegal, Sierra Leone and the Würzburger Allstars.

We had numerous applicant teams and ultimately even had to turn them down because the event was limited to twelve teams. We are particularly pleased about the media interest in our event and about the visit of our sports and culture representative for the city of Augsburg, Jürgen K. Enninger, who delivered greetings from the city of Augsburg before kick-off.

During the course of the day, other invited guests such as Serdar Akin (City Councilor, City of Augsburg Alliance 90/The Greens) and Ulrike Bahr (Member of the German Bundestag, SPD), who even accompanied the organizing team and the winning team on an educational trip to the Bundestag in Berlin, also came invited to come over for a visit. The chairman of the SPD Augsburg, Dirk Wurm, attended the award ceremony in the evening.

After exciting and strong duels, which were always fought fairly, this year's winners were determined at the end of the day: Team Afrique from Augsburg took the title, silver went to the Würzburg Allstars ahead of third-placed Gambia.

It was a perfect day. Great weather, music and delicious African delicacies. Relaxed and happy, and everyone was there with fun and fighting spirit.  In total, there were always around 450 actors and spectators on the pitch. We want to bring people from different cultures together and we succeeded in doing so this year.
